The 2nd Anniversary of the Opening of Beijing 2022: The Three Olympic Venues Have Received More Than 7 Million Visitors

The 2nd Anniversary of the Opening of Beijing 2022 falls on February 4, 2024. In the past two years, National Stadium (“Bird’s Nest”), Beijing National Aquatics Center (“Water Cube”) and National Speed Skating Oval (“Ice Ribbon”) have met new demands for sports and sports consumption of high-quality products and carriers by holding hundreds of large-scale activities. They have received a total of more than 7 million visitors and delivered “China’s Answer Paper” for sustainable utilization of Olympic venues.

Following a complete success of the service guarantee tasks of Beijing 2022, the post-Games operation mode quickly prevails in these three Winter Olympics venues under overall arrangement of BSAM, which demonstrates hardware facilities under international standard, operating mechanisms under the Winter Olympics standard, first-class competition service support teams and upgraded experience of smart venues, makes the three Winter Olympics venues integrate sports events, mass fitness, cultural leisure, exhibition, display and social welfare in one, and strives to maximize the utilization benefits from the Winter Olympics heritage.

“High-level sports events are engraved as the background and foundation of these Olympic venues. By virtue of first-class venue facilities and competition service guarantee teams, we actively introduce and hold high-level domestic and international events, roll out top-grade sports powerhouses, and help the people share the cultural and sports feast”, says the relevant head of BSAM.

In the past two years, the 10th Equestrian Beijing Masters was staged in “Bird’s Nest”; FINA Short Course Swimming World Cup Series was held at “Water Cube”; ISU Speed Skating World Cup (Beijing Division) and the 2022-2023 National Speed Skating Youth Championships were held at “Ice Ribbon”. “International Skating Union Center of Excellence” has been settled in “Ice Ribbon” and Training Center of World Curling Academy has been set up at Ice Sports Center of “Ice Cube”, which are committed to providing professional sports training support services and cultivating excellent winter sportsmen. Since Beijing 2022, a total of 36,000 members of the national speed skating team and district-level professional teams have enjoyed training services of National Speed Skating Oval. 2023 ISU CoE Skating Training Camp was held in order to spread and develop skating sport.

“We unswervingly combine sustainable utilization of the Winter Olympics venues with national fitness campaign by launching a number of mass ice and snow events and top-quality events”, says relevant head of BSAM. “Happy Ice and Snow Season at Bird’s Nest” has consecutive track records for 13 times to this day. Beijing National Aquatics Center switched on the “water-ice dual drive” operation mode. Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Swimming Open Championship, Youth Swimming Series and other swimming matches for the people were held at Olympic Competition Hall. Ice Sports Center of “Ice Cube” is wholly open to the public, where “Ice Cube Cup” Curling Invitational and other activities are in full swing. National Speed Skating Oval introduces high-level skating clubs to train youngsters on ice, while branded activities, such as “Ice Ribbon” Speed Skating Series of Beijing People and Beijing Cross-country Pulley Open Championship have been carried out. All these efforts popularize ice and snow sports among Beijing people, consolidates and outreaches the Winter Olympics achievements for “encouraging 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports”.

In the past two years after Beijing 2022, BSAM integrates the three Olympic venues, carefully develops cultural consumption scenarios, masterminds top-notch cultural and leisurely activities, and better meets the new needs of the people for a better life. In 2023, “Bird’s Nest” Summer Star Performance Season brought together 17 large-scale concerts and attracted 820,000 audiences. The 13th “Cultures of China · Water Cube Cup” Chinese Songs Contest Gala held the spotlight at Beijing National Aquatics Center, followed by “Shining Loong in Water Cube and Welcoming to the Loong Year—Loong Exhibition of Water Cube on New Year’s Eve”. World-class figure skaters were invited for a large-scale ice show “Magic on Ice” at “Ice Ribbon”, satisfying the audience with a visual feast of ice performance.

BSAM actively gives shape to the social public welfare value of the Winter Olympics venues, and blazes an effective path towards perfect combination of post-Games utilization of the Olympic venues and the youth Olympic education. In 2023, BSAM, Beijing Municipal Education Commission and Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation jointly launched a series of Beijing primary and secondary school students’ Olympic education activities with focus on the Winter Olympics venues, which were themed with “Winter Sports for a Shared Future Series Events in 2023”. At the same time, BSAM pools top-quality resources, provides the service of “BSAM Dual Olympics Classroom”, and strives to build these three Olympic venues into new national-level Olympic education centers. In 2024, “Beijing Ice and Snow Carnival for the Disabled” raised the curtain in “Bird’s Nest”, allowing the disabled to take pleasure in ice and snow sports. Beijing National Aquatics Center held “Light It Up Blue” Event and called on the society-wide care for autistic groups. National Speed Skating Oval organized Public Welfare Experience Day themed with “Light up ‘Ice Ribbon’ Together to a Shared Future”, and unveiled the nameplate of “National Speed Skating Oval 08-22 Football Field”. As a football competition and training venue dedicated to the blind, this event substantially boosts sports development of the disabled.
